Sebastian Sorg (*1976, D) studied literature and political science in Heidelberg, Bologna and Berlin. In addition to his Master’s degree, he completed a diploma in film directing at the University of Television and Film in Munich from 2001. He worked as a freelance documentary film director and journalist in Europe and North America until 2015.
2010 to 2018 he directed the film market of the International Documentary Film Festival DOK.fest Munich, from 2015 he is regularly appointed as an expert in the Creative Europe Programme of the EU Commission.
In 2018, he moved to the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern as a funding officer, on whose Awards Committee XR he has been a representative since 2020. Since 2019 he has been a member of the Non Fiction Commission of the Zurich Film Foundation and since 2022 a member of the Film Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Culture in Austria.
In his activities with film markets and funding, he has actively and passively worked on a large number of creative projects and contributed to their successful realisation.
He has participated in numerous juries and panels, given lectures and organised workshops, co-edited specialised publications and worked for several years as a project developer for the XR HUB Bavaria.
