SEBASTIAN SORG works as a consultant, project developer and lecturer in the field of audiovisual media.
In 2009, he conceived, established and managed the film market at the Munich International Documentary Film Festival. Since then, DOK.forum has developed into one of the most important industry events in the European film market and, thanks to its active participatory approach, offers hundreds of film projects a springboard into the audiovisual market.
In 2018, he joined the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern as a funding officer and was appointed to its XR award committee in 2020. As a member of the funding commission, he has been and continues to be involved with the Zurich Film Foundation, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Culture and several committees of the EU Commission’s Creative Europe Programme, among others.
Through his commitment, Sebastian Sorg has contributed directly and indirectly to the successful realisation of a large number of films and innovative companies. The allocation of public funding and the evaluation of funding programmes are just as much a part of his professional experience as strategic planning and results-oriented collaboration in project development.
As a project developer, he has been instrumental in establishing the DOK.forum film market at the Munich International Documentary Film Festival, the Extended Realities pilot funding programme of the Bavarian Film and Television Fund, the establishment of the XR HUB Bavaria at Medien.Bayern GmbH and significant technological innovations.
Sebastian Sorg regularly participates in international juries and panels and is involved in state art academies as a lecturer in teaching as well as in examination and selection committees.
Sebastian Sorg holds two degrees: a diploma in film directing and media studies from the University of Television and Film in Munich and an MA in literature and political science from Ludwig Karl University in Heidelberg, the Università degli Studi di Bologna and Humboldt University in Berlin.
As part of his freelance journalistic work as a director, Sebastian Sorg has produced independent works for television and film since graduating.
Sebastian Sorg is a member of the Association for Film and Television Dramaturgy (VeDRA), the Documentary Association Europe (DAE) and Balimage.
