SEBASTIAN SORG studied literature and political science in Heidelberg, Bologna and Berlin and, in addition to his master’s degree, completed a diploma in film directing at the University of Television and Film in Munich in 2001. He works as a freelance project developer, creative consultant, lecturer and moderator.

From 2003 to 2010 Sebastian Sorg realised several international film projects for film and television which were successfully exploited.

From 2010 to 2018, he founded and managed the Film Market of the Munich International Documentary Film Festival, which has since developed into one of the most significant industry events in the European film market.

In 2018, he moved to FilmFernsehFonds Bayern as a funding officer, where he has been a deputy member of the XR Awards Committee since 2020. As a member of the advisory board, he was and is active, among others, at the Zurich Film Foundation, for the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (BAK), at the Federal Ministry of Culture in Austria (BMKÖS) as well as in several committees of the Creative Europe Programme of the EU Commission and EURIMAGES.

In his activities in film markets and funding, he has thus actively and passively worked on many audiovisual projects and contributed to their successful implementation. The responsible allocation of public funding and the evaluation of projects are just as much part of his professional experience as strategic planning and goal-oriented collaboration on creative audiovisual projects.

Sebastian Sorg regularly participates in international juries and panels and is involved in state art academies as a lecturer both in teaching and in examination and selection committees. As a project developer, he was involved in establishing the XR HUB Bavaria at Medien.Bayern GmbH.

Sebastian Sorg is a member of the Association for Film and Television Dramaturgy VeDRA and the Documentary Association Europe DAE.
